I am a huge fan of television shows and films. I actually started out my writing career by writing scripts for short film projects when I was younger. It was a fantastic way to tell stories and the medium has stayed with me ever since.

The ability that film and TV has to tell stories is unbeatable. They can make you feel things so deeply and honestly and are a really good way to experience things that you otherwise can’t.

Therefore, when I am unable to travel or there is too much going on in my life I love to watch shows that ignite the travel bug within me. It’s also a really fun way of hyping yourself up for an upcoming trip.

If you want to know more about what I do to keep wanderlust alive when I can’t travel, check out this blogpost.

If you are itching to get your travel fix right now but are unable to travel then check out this list of my favourite travel-inspiring films and TV shows.

I will be updating this list as I watch more inspiring travel media!

Mamma Mia 2: Here We Go Again

I don’t know what it is about Mamma Mia 2 but it really makes me want to go off and see the world. The concept of moving to a new, unknown place and making it feel like home is so appealing. Plus there is some pretty adorable sequences in some other European cities that really make you wanna go dance in a restaurant in Paris.

The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy

Frodo Baggins and his gang of misfit friends going on an adventure to destroy the ring of power is the most thrilling adventure of them all. Lush scenery, challenges along the way and the perils of living out of a backpack. What isn’t to love?

TV Shows

Travel Man

Richard Ayoade takes a celebrity guest somewhere around the world and shows them the sights within the span of 48 hours. If you, like me, have other obligations that mean you unfortunately can’t just jet off for a long period of time, Travel Man is great at showing you the must see things and helping you to see the world on a time limit.

Travels With My Father

Jack Whitehall and his father Michael go on a belated Gap Year together. Michael, who would rather sit at home eating Welsh lamb than eat any kind of foreign food clashes with Jack’s eager-to-experience personality hilariously. It is the backpacking trip that no one wants to go on and that is what makes it so hilarious.

Doctor Who

A TV show about travelling through time and space and seeing everything there is to see along the way? Sign me up! Doctor Who is such a fun show with so many amazing characters. It’s all about mishaps and fixing problems you encounter except those problems are aliens and its taking place on other planets.

An Idiot Abroad

An Idiot Abroad is one of the funniest travel shows out there, in my opinion. Karl Pilkington is sent on a trip around the world by two of his friends to see the new seven wonders of the world. Pilkington however, has no desire to travel and is instead made to live like one of the locals with no prior warning to what he will be doing. It is a very funny show but also very real with no scripting and genuine events taking place.
